A Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Airport Pickup and Transfer to Tsavo West NP.

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by our safari guide-driver from Arcadia Safaris who welcomes you to Kenya, briefs you on this 9-day safari, and transfers you to Tsavo West National Park straightaway. You will have time for lunch in the afternoon and an optional afternoon or evening game drive. Tsavo West is the most visited section in Tsavo National Park, offering a number of attractions apart from its wildlife. First stop will be Mzima Springs, the most famous and here about 227.3 million litres of cold clear water pour from the earth across the rock and through porous volcanic rock at its base, presumably from Chuyulu Hills some ten kilometres in the background passing underground via river. Dinner and overnight stay are at your Lodge.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drives in Tsavo West NP.

Right after breakfast, we shall embark on a full-day game drive with picnic lunches. Among the places to visit here is the Roaring Rocks that obtain their name from the winds that sprint through them. Here, there are wonderful views over Tsavo from the top of a 98m rock face; similar views can be experienced from the poacher’s lookout. Less than 200 years old, the black coke Chaimu Crater, which is of volcanic origin, is also worth a visit and can even be climbed for those interested. This area is also worth looking out for klipspringer – a small antelope that is as surefooted as its Swahili name suggests: mbuzimawe or mountain goat. Situated on the southwest corner of Tsavo West, the Lake Jipe has the Kenyan-Tanzanian border running through it. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to Amboseli National Park on day 3 of your trip. After checking in at your accommodation and having lunch, you will go on an afternoon game drive. Amboseli National Park lies south of Nairobi. Most of the park consists of dry, ancient lake bed, fragile grassland, and patches of acacia woodland. The southern area consists of a number of small, rocky, volcanic hills. Around the Ol Okenya, Ol Tukai, and Enkongo Narok swamps, the vegetation is lush with yellow-barked acacias and phoenix palms. 9 Day Kenya Wild Safari Adventure, Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

An early rise for great views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit. Despite the change in habitat, Amboseli National Park is probably the best wildlife area in the whole of Africa to see elephants up close. Elephants feeding and bathing in the swamps form the highlights of any safari. After breakfast, a Maasai village visit can be organized. You will see them sing and dance, which forms part of their daily lives and spiritual activities. A glimpse into their homes and family setups is an added experience. You will have dinner and your overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Transfer from Amboseli NP to Lake Naivasha.

Early this morning, right after breakfast, you will drive to Lake Naivasha, the highest and most beautiful of the Rift Valley lakes. Sitting at 1910m (6200ft) the water is fresh and the lake is fringed with dense clumps of papyrus-ancient Egyptians once used this to make paper. Kingfishers use the papyrus as a perch while herons hide in it while searching for food.

Naivasha is yet another area popular for bird watching with over 400 bird species have been recorded. 9 Day Kenya Wild Safari Adventure, It is also a favourite weekend retreat for Nairobi residents, who come here to sail, water ski, and fish. There are no crocodiles in the lake as the water is too cold for them (due to the altitude) but there are a number of hippos. The lakeshores’ vineyards are creating grapes for the country’s up-and-coming wine industry. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Across the equator, southwards of Bogoria, lies the Great Rift Valley and the famous Lake Nakuru National Park. Known all over the world for its flamingos and its alkaline lake, this park is recognized as being one of the natural wonders of the world. It is also a rhino sanctuary, harboring a population of over 40 black and over 60 white rhinos. Of course, the flamingos have always been the main attraction. At times, there may be almost two million of them in residence, forming a stunningly beautiful deep pink band around the edge of the lakeshore. You will arrive here in time for lunch then go on an afternoon game drive. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Today, on day 7, after breakfast, you will go on an early morning game drive to Masai Mara National Reserve. This is one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed in the numbers that were once common across all the plains and forests of Africa. The northern tip of the great Serengeti ecosystem, Mara is home to the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of Wildebeest, Zebras and attendant predators. Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Day 8: Full Day Game Drives in Masai Mara.

After breakfast, take a full-day game drive in the Maasai Mara. Lunch can be taken on a picnic basis. The well-known black-maned lions of Maasai Mara and abundance of wildlife means that this may be one of those rare places where you will have the possibility to see all of the ‘Big Five‘ during a single morning game drive. Many of the cheetahs here are so tame they seek shade from the scorching sun under vehicles. 9 Day Kenya Wild Safari Adventure, Many even climb up onto the roof for a better view of potential prey!

For the birders – nearly 500 species have been recorded here. Among these are 16 species of eagle, many hawks and falcons, six species of vultures, eight species of storks, four species of bustard including the Kori bustard, the world’s heaviest flying bird, and nine species of sunbirds. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at a campsite or lodge. After breakfast, take an optional visit to a Masai village. Alternatively, go on a hot air balloon ride.
